Never officially digitized!); fans will be surprised by how far it departs from the more familiar album version. The same melody on the "Autobahn" revision would become an almost majestic synth-rock boogie-woogie stomp. But the earlier recording, named after the much-hyped comet discovered the same year, reverses the arrangement of tempos: the B-Side is the slower movement here, and was closer aligned with older currents of Kosmische Rock than its long-playing cousin.

I like this version, sound has more dreaming feeling, but this single is so expensive

This one makes a pretty damn good example of an oddity, as both sides reflect work in progress - pieces in radically different form, rarely heard in the Kraftwerk catalogue, considering they always deliver a final concept-album product with most of their single releases only slightly remixed or ungratefully edited from the original album environment. That said, "Version 1" here is only slightly deceptive, starting with the exact spooky whistling intro (as if it's the exact cut from the "Autobahn's" crossover between "Kometenmelodie" pts 1 and 2) - but suddenly the piece becomes more intriguing as it bursts into a psychedelic tune this side of Neu!. "Version 2" is way slower and is brought in a more acoustic, albeit equally edgier sound. The baby of a single that's pushing synth buttons to great effect and in the right direction. A beautifully rough studio sketch of what would become a proper suite on the group's landmark album a year later.

still a great record, because it's the "blueprint" :-)
