David Bowie is the self-titled debut studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 1 June 1967, on Deram Records. Its style and content bears little overt resemblance to the type of music that he was later known for, such as the folk rock influenced "Space Oddity" or the glam rock of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
David Bowie's 1966-1967 recordings for Decca Records have been released in various configurations over the years. This European compilation presents 14 of them, songs that originally turned up on singles and LPs between 1966 and 1970. At the height of his Anthony Newley phase, Bowie is highly theatrical and occasionally humorous, but there is little for fans of his later rock & roll music to enjoy. The lead-off track, the novelty "The Laughing Gnome" (originally released in 1967), became a . Top Ten hit in 1973 in the wake of Bowie's commercial breakthrough

David Bowie is the second studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released under that title by Philips in the UK, and as Man of Words/Man of Music by Mercury in the US, on 14 November 1969. It was reissued in 1972 by RCA Records as Space Oddity (the title of the opening track, which had reached No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart). Space Oddity was the name used for CD releases of the album in 1984, 1990 and 1999, but it reverted to the original, eponymous title for 2009 and 2015 reissues.

Until the last, David Bowie, who has died of cancer, was still capable of springing surprises. His latest album, Blackstar, appeared on his 69th birthday on 8 January, and showed that his gift for making dramatic statements as well as challenging, disturbing music had not deserted him. Throughout the 1970s, Bowie was a trailblazer of musical trends and pop fashion. His capacity for mixing brilliant changes of sound and image underpinned by a genuine intellectual curiosity is rivalled by few in pop history. Blackstar was proof that this curiosity had not diminished in his later career. Bowie was born David Robert Jones in Brixton, south London. His mother, Peggy, had met his father, John, after he was demobilised from second world war service in the Royal Fusiliers. John subsequently worked for the Barnardo’s children’s charity.

He released his debut album, the self-titled David Bowie, in 1967 after playing in a host of pub and club bands. 14. 1967 also saw the release of a single, The Laughing Gnome, which many fans argue is the worst song he has ever recorded.
When the pain hit, David Bowie was singing a song called Reality. It was just another concert on a tour that had stretched on a little too long, bringing him to a stiflingly hot arena stage in Prague, on a late-June evening in 2004. Reality, the title track to his album of the previous year, was about facing mortality and putting illusions aside, and at age 57, he had been busy doing just that. Bowie wrote 30 or so songs for the album, in wildly different styles, recording at Soho’s Magic Shop studio, around the corner from his apartment building. They’d lay down the basic tracks live, with Bowie playing some guitar. It was the beginning of what turned into a final flood of productivity. In November, about a month after he shot that video, Bowie’s cancer came back, according to Visconti. This time, doctors told him it was terminal. It had spread all over his body, says Visconti, so there’s no recovering from that.
