Tommy is a 1972 album, based on the original 1969 album by The Who, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Measham, of arrangements by Wil Malone. The project was conceived by Lou Reizner, initially with Rod Stewart singing Roger Daltrey's main role. As Pete Townshend and Daltrey became more involved, Stewart's role was reduced to singing "Pinball Wizard".

Previous Who live shows had always dropped two, three or four tracks from the album but for this show in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust the band would perform every track. The Who have toured Tommy before, in 1969, 1989 and again in 2002, but this set includes every track performed live from the 24 track studio album, including the side 4 rarity Welcome. In this 100th show in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust, The Who performed their nearly 50 year old landmark rock opera Tommy in its entirety along with a second set of 7 greatest hits at London's historic Royal Albert Hall. The Who have announced that they’ll release Tommy - Live At The Royal Albert Hall later this year. The live package will arrive on October 13 on DVD, Blu-ray, 2CD, 3LP and on digital formats via Eagle Rock Entertainment. For the rescheduled Greatest Hits shows Roger and Pete will play the hits as well as some lesser known Who songs and also include a new focused presentation of TOMMY drawn from the Royal Albert Hall concerts including a brand new video programme specially produced for these shows. This UK set will emulate the historic period around Live At Leeds and Woodstock when the central pivot of The Who’s show was always their performance of TOMMY For Who fans new and old this is something special that hasn’t been done by the band or seen by their audience since 1970  . Roger and Pete Townshend have been supporters of Teenage Cancer Trust for over 22 years and The Who headlined the very first show for them at the Royal Albert Hall in 2000.
