Live at the Isle of Wight Festival is a double live album by The Who, recorded at the Isle of Wight Festival on 29 August 1970, and released in 1996. A DVD of the concert was also released for the first time in 1996. The Who were one year and three months into their Tommy tour when they played their second engagement at the Isle of Wight Festival. As in 1969, they played most of their famous rock opera, which by this time was quite familiar to the festival crowd

This double CD is pretty similar in sound and content to the expanded Live at Leeds album, except there's much more from Tommy, and a few semi-obscure numbers like "I Don't Even Know Myself," "Water," and "Naked Ey. Hardcore Who fanatics seem to prefer Live at Leeds, which was recorded only a few months before this material. If you do like the Who a lot, though, Isle of Wight is worth having. The sound and performances are decent, although be aware that the band's on-stage version of Tommy omits some decent songs from the opera, such as "Sensation" and "Underture.

At 2am on Sunday August 30th 1970, one of the great British rock bands gave one of the most memorable concerts of their career. Academy Award® winning director Murray Lerner was there to capture this superb performance for posterity. for the first time we present The Who Live At The Isle Of Wight Festival 1970 on both CD and DVD in the same package. Includes 12-page booklet

The Isle of Wight Festival 1970 was held between 26 and 31 August 1970 at Afton Down, an area on the western side of the Isle of Wight. It was the last of three consecutive music festivals to take place on the island between 1968 and 1970 and widely acknowledged as the largest musical event of its time, greater than the attendance of Woodstock. Although estimates vary, the Guinness World Records estimated 600,000, possibly 700,000 people attended

Album · 1996 · 30 Songs. But to hear the band in action is a mighty experience. This Isle of Wight concert has often been bootlegged, but its official release ensures the finest sound possible. It’s unusual to say the drums lead the way at a concert, but here Keith Moon’s anarchic style takes the band and shakes it to the core.

Live at the Isle of Wight Festival 1970" is an official live album by The Who, recorded at the Isle of Wight Festival on August 29 1970 and released by Sony in 1996 along with a corresponding VHS video, which was re-released on DVD in 1998 and remastered in 2004.
