Ride a Rock Horse is the second solo album by The Who's lead singer, Roger Daltrey. It was first released in 1975. Songs were recorded during Daltrey's filming commitments for Ken Russell's film Lisztomania. The album's cover, which is photographed and designed by Daltrey's cousin Graham Hughes, is known as remarkable for depicting the singer as a rampant centaur. The second Roger Daltrey album is different from his first one. This is more influenced by disco and has jazzy parts whereas Daltrey, his first album, focuses on orchestrated soft rock. I guess I feel a stronger connection to the soft rock stuff because Roger tends to get personal which of course makes his music more relatable. Proud" opens in a very typical mid 70's way. Really odd too because the Who was a unique rock band with their own style so it's weird that a solo album by a key band member in Roger Daltrey would sound so generic. Of course I still like it to an extent because I love the 70's so even the generic stuff sounds good to me, but still, I expect better from the master himself Roger Daltrey. Walking the Dog" opens with a funky groove that's somewhat unique. This is a great cover version and honestly not one I ever expected from Roger Daltrey!
