The Bones of What You Believe is the debut studio album by Scottish synth-pop band Chvrches, released on 20 September 2013 by Virgin Records and Goodbye Records. Recorded between 2011 and 2013 in Glasgow, the album was written, composed, and produced by the band as a collaborative effort.

To say this album has an ’80s feel would be like saying the Glastonbury Festival is quite well known: you can hear a semblance of Human League, an echo of Pet Shop Boys and even a smidgen of early Madonna all fizzing around in the circuitry. The poppiness of The Bone. ill appeal to many, but Chvrches’ more modern leanings keep them on the edgy side. Best of all, they sound like they have the potential to refine this sound and make it even greater. Expect to be hearing about Chvrches for some time to come-and believe the hype. What are your thoughts?

With this new album, CHVRCHES certainly makes a significant statement regarding the future of their music. And it’s not just the hit singles that define the album, each track has a significant voice and role in the impact of the album.

Unlike those those bands, Chvrches avoid guitars almost entirely, but the hooks on The Bones of What You Believe are indelible regardless of instrumentation, and the sound is immaculate. After Chvrches self-produced the album in band member Iain Cook's own Glasgow studio, big-deal boards guy Rich Costey (Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine) handled the mixing; his touch gives these tunes the bright clarity they deserve, with plenty of space for funhouse sonic triggers- processed effects, pitched-down vocal samples, frizzy synth-pad textures. That sense of precision is unusual for a band this new, but Cook and Martin Doherty, who handle the majority of the instrumentation live and on record, are vets of Glasgow's perpetually fertile indie scene.

CHVRCHES carves their niche among this pantheon with the undeniably catchy and cleverly-programmed Bones of What You Believe. I'd like to hear them try a bit more harmonizing or alternating the vocal patterns - the few bits that experiment with this approach leave me hungry for more. They also could vary.

Not terribly impressed with this vinyl pressing. There is a noticeable loss of volume toward the inner groove songs (by a couple of decibels), plus the vinyl is noisy with bass rumble (if you don't have a switch for that), though it eases up toward the inner grooves. Also, my copy arrived with a nasty unplayable GOUGE through Recover, which is my favorite song on this album. Hopefully my next copy will not have such problems, but I think I'll try my luck with the European pressing.

Hallo, can anyone comment on what the quality of this pressing is like?

This album is far better than the single "The Mother We Share". My first thoughts were Debbie Gibson with attitude, but quickly realized it was much more than that. I highly recommend checking out the track "Night Sky". For fans of Metric, Missing Persons

Worth every penny spent! This Electro/pop album has some of the coolest atmosphere pads with beautiful synth/vocal backing. It's danceable, singable & very motivating in general! For me it's like mixing Daft Punk with postal service and cut copy and adding female vocals. I love it! Going into this album I only knew "The Mother We Share" being the radio hit but I was so pleased to find that the whole album lights up! Easy 5/5!
