During their tumultuous existence between 1967 and 1974, Traffic had two distinct phases separated by a year (January 1969 to February 1970) during which the band was temporarily dissolved. In its first phase, Traffic was heavily influenced by the pop psychedelia of its time, but were also developing a distinctive blues-rock jam style. When Steve Winwood reconvened the group in 1970 without Dave Mason, he was ready to take the spotlight more forcefully, and Traffic evolved into a band that played long, largely instrumental songs.

Smiling Phases is a music boxset/compilation recording by TRAFFIC (Eclectic Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1991 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Most Traffic fans would never settle for a "Best Of" compilation; even a double-CD set like this leaves out some very good tracks from just about every album. However, someone without a lot of room (like myself) might be able to get by with this compilation plus a few key albums. A Traffic box set is surely on the horizon, but this will have to do until that arrives.

On The Road is the second live album (two LPs, reissued on one CD) by English rock band Traffic, released in 1973. Recorded live in Germany, it features the Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory lineup plus extra keyboardist (for live performances) Barry Beckett.

Wooden Frog brought no album, Blind Faith one. After the breakup of Blind Faith to Winwood began working on a solo album, but Capaldi and Wood soon joined with him, which resulted in the Traffic album John Barleycorn Must Die.
