Kaleidoscope with drummer Jon Hazilla appeared the following year. Blake then paid homage to West Coast singer Chris Connor with Cocktails at Dusk: A Noir Tribute to Chris Connor (2014). His debut album, The Newest Sound Around, was awarded the RCA Album First Prize in Germany in 1963. The follow-up to his debut, Ran Blake Plays Solo Piano, was released on ESP in 1965. Two years later, Blake began teaching jazz at Boston's New England Conservatory of Music. Kaleidoscope with drummer Jon Hazilla appeared the following year.

The album shows Blake's signature style beginning to develop, as they paid homage to Blake's early influences with a tribute to David Raksin's "Laura" and a reworking of the gospel standard, "The Church on Russell Street". Lee and Blake continued to play together throughout their careers and released another album in 1989 entitled You Stepped out of a Cloud. Blake met Gunther Schuller in a chance encounter at Atlantic Records in 1959. In 1966, Blake released his first record as a soloist, Ran Blake Plays Solo Piano, on New York-based label ESP Disk. In 1967, Schuller, president of the New England Conservatory, recruited Blake to fill a faculty position as the Conservatory's Community Services Director. With Jon Hazilla (percussion), Kara D. Rusch (keyboards, cymbals).

Ran Blake (born April 20, 1935) is an American pianist, composer, and educator. He is known for his unique style that combines blues, gospel, classical, and film noir influences into an innovative and dark jazz sound. The album shows Blake's signature style beginning to develop, as they paid homage to Blake's early influences with a tribute to David Raksin's "Laura" and a reworking of the gospel standard, "The Church on Russell Street". Recognizing Blake's talent, Schuller asked him to study at the School of Jazz in Lenox, Massachusetts. A year later, he drew inspiration from the work of legendary film noir and French new wave director Claude Chabrol on Chabrol Noir. In 2017, he reunited with longtime associate Eade for Town & Country.

Kaleidoscope World is a compilation album by New Zealand group The Chills, released in 1986 on Flying Nun Records in New Zealand and on Creation Records in UK. The album was a compilation of early singles, plus all the Chills' tracks which featured on the Dunedin Double EP and The Lost EP. It was reissued in 1987 by Flying Nun with a bonus 7-inch single, "I'll Only See You Alone Again"/"Green Eyed Owl". It was rereleased again in 2016 by Flying Nun and Captured Tracks with a further 7 bonus tracks.
