I don't require this album to maintain continuity with the earlier 'Virgin Years' analog work, as that was already pretty much broken with as of "Cyclone"; and I love the cold tech noir eeriness of "Exit", like a ghost movie set in the alleys and rain of "Bladerunner". As a bridge between the '70s and '80s TD phases, it's perfect.
Exit marks the beginning of a new phase in Tangerine Dream's music: Gone were the side-long, sequencer-led journeys, replaced by topical pieces that were more self-contained in scope, more contemporary in sound. Johannes Schmoelling's influence is really felt for the first time here; Tangram, for all its crispness and melody, was simply a refinement of Force Majeure's principles, and the soundtrack to Thief not an album proper. On Exit, listeners are introduced to electronic music's next generation, notably on "Choronzon" and "Network 23," which brought.
This is where my journey into Tangerine Dream once started. I just think it was TD entering a new era in this particular style of music. The 80's was what it was and TD adapted to it properly, but also masterfully.

Artist name appears on the spine as 'Tangerine Dream Live' (this is an error - the release is a studio album). Track 2 is misspelled 'Pilots Of Purple Twighlight' on the CD, in the booklet and on the rear artwork. Track 6 title is truncated to 'Remote' on the CD and on the rear artwork. Artist names appear in multiple forms, and the rear artwork mentions Peter Baumann as a band member, although he wasn't in the lineup on this album.
