The Divine Wings of Tragedy was the album that first gave Symphony X exposure in metal circles. It took a considerable time to record the album, with the recording sessions taking place in 1996, and the album was released late in the year, on November 13th . In 2005 Symphony X was featured on Gigantour, a summer festival headlined by Megadeth with Dream Theater, Nevermore and Anthrax Paradise Lost (2006–10). Lead vocalist Russell Allen performing at a concert in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 27, 2007.
Symphony X started writing songs that serve as ballads for their albums, but double as mini epics and they have included one in each album since Damnation Game. What I find so enjoyable about these songs is that as far as the ballad part goes, they're slow, but not boring and they have a fairly upbeat feel to them. Now for the the main course "The Divine Wings of Tragedy" Symphony X's first attempt at a 20 minute epic. I would also consider this their first notable true epic (the one from their debut album sucked), this song has everything you could want from a progressive metal 20 minute epic, fantastic melodies, changing moods and amazing, technical soloing.

Sound - 10 My first encounter with the music of Symphony X was through a good friend who let me listen to "Sea Of Lies," from this album. I was very impressed, but I had yet to hear the rest of the album, which I did when he let me borrow the cd at one point and eventually bought my own. This is one of those CDs where you just cannot ignore every song. I loved the distortion of the guitar . Definately worth listening - 8/10. 08. The Divine Wings Of Tragedy - the epic track spanning over twenty minutes. I. 'At The Four Corners Of The Earth' - there is only a choir here that fills your ears with pure melody. Lyrics are by M. Romeo and M. Pinella.
