Few Schubert fans would disagree that his ninth symphony deserves the name, the ‘Great’. 14. Schumann's discovery. Robert Schumann discovered the Great Symphony in a chest after Schubert’s death. The riches that lay here made me tremble with excitement, he enthused. The symphony transports us into a world where I cannot recall ever having been before, said Schumann.
Schubert's body of work includes over 600 songs for voice and piano. That number alone is vastly impressive - many composers fail to reach that number of compositions in their entire output, let alone in a single genre.
The first thing I heard from him was Symphony 9. I thought it was brilliantly amazing, by the way. Anyway, since I'm trying to explore more of his works, what are your favourite pieces written by Franz Schubert? Reply With Quote. HaydnBearstheClock liked this post.
A greatest hits album, sometimes called a "best of" album or a catalog album, is a compilation of songs by a particular artist or band. Most often the track list contains previously released recordings with a high degree of notability. The Carpenters Greatest Hits The Carpenters Best Songs Album 2017. The Monkees' 1995 Greatest Hits album was the third so titled to date. It was issued when Rhino Records took over the Monkees' catalog, and was intended to replace the existing Arista compilations. It has since been superseded by The Monkees Anthology and The Best of the Monkees. All songs are in stereo except "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone," "A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," and "Words" which are in mono.
These are among Franz Schubert's greatest piano works and I never tire of them. Murray Perahia does them justice, as he does with just about everything that he records. As others here have indicated, Schubert's Impromptus are truly golden. At first, I thought I just liked them. As far as other interpretations go, I'm not sure I've heard a bad recording of these pieces.
