Cut Loose is the 1983 debut solo album by Paul Rodgers (of Free and Bad Company fame). Unlike his other work, Paul Rodgers plays all the instruments on this album. It was recorded at his house in Kingstone. The song "Live In Peace" was re-recorded by his next band The Firm on their second album Mean Business

As others have noted, Rodgers plays all the intruments here and I do agree that he's not a master musician who really shines on any instrument (though I do like his guitar tone and some of his solos/guitar work is surprisingly tasty). But imho, this is a plus because he simply plays what is needed to get the songs across and on this album more than any other he's done, the songs really shine, so any fancy playing would just muddle things. Despite the release date (1983), this album finds Rodgers sticking to the basics of bass, drums and guitar delivering straight-ahead blues based rock and roll, so no 80's crash-and-burn here like so many other artists fell into during that decade.

After the disappointing 1982 release Rough Diamonds, Bad Company split up and vocalist Paul Rodgers focused on his solo album Cut Loose. It's a "solo" album in every sense of the word; Rodgers wrote, produced, sang, and played every single note. Yep, besides highlighting his miraculous voice, Cut Loose features Rodgers playing guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, and drums. It's a competent release and it features some good songs, but one wonders how much better it could have been if he had interacted with other musicians.
