Hyperion by Krallice, released 01 January 2016 1. Hyperion 2. The Guilt of Time 3. Assuming Memory recorded july 2013 at menegroth. Lawrence I like this one more than Ygg huur, sick album art as always, Krallice have yet to release an album that isn't amazing.
Krallice is a black metal band formed by New York City musicians Colin Marston, Mick Barr, Nick McMaster and Lev Weinstein. They play an experimental, highly technical style of black metal. The band has released eight studio albums and two EPs, most recently the LP Go Be Forgotten on November 21, 2017. They have been described as "one of the most interesting, engaging black metal bands to emerge in recent years" and "one of the most important bands in modern black metal".
The new Hyperion, actually recorded two years before Ygg Huur, supplies the exclamation mark for that thought. Issued suddenly through Bandcamp on New Year’s Day, the three-song follow-up is a succinct, explosive encapsulation of Krallice’s evolution and progression during the last decade. It was the longest break in Krallice’s career, as they’d issued at least an album every year (except 2010) since their self-titled debut. Now, though, they appear to be back on pace, and the consecutive successes of Ygg Huur and Hyperion reinforce what (aside from the songs themselves) has long been most admirable about Krallice.
Hyperion represents a new highpoint in sheer density for guitarists Mick Barr and Colin Marston’s six-stringed entanglement, but it doesn’t happen at the expense of the effusive torrents of energy that make the band so life-affirming in the first place.
The NYC black metal band released another new album out of nowhere. It'd probably be safe to say that the NYC black metal band Krallice loves releasing new music when you're not expecting it. In 2015, they released their pummeling Ygg huur, and today they've released their new record Hyperion. It's 26 minutes of progressive and forward thinking black metal, and perfect to make your new years a little darker.
