Live/Dead is the first official live album released by the San Francisco-based band Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann, the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. The second CD was released on vinyl as a stand-alone double LP on Record Store Day 2017. On the originally prepared artwork, the writing for the top of the album cover read "In the land of the dark, the ship of the sun is drawn by the Grateful Dead", a passage taken from the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
Live Dead" is a classic collection of tracks, remastered from their performance at the Fillmore West in 1969. I originally bought this album on vinyl back in the 70s. The original vinyl release was a two-album set, which had some awkward breaks at the ends of each side of the record. Is Live Dead their best live collection ever? Nah, there are better ones. But if you grew up like me with the vinyl version of all of their albums, you'll appreciate this one for all the memories it brings back.
